Hello! My name is Samantha, but everyone calls me Sam or Sami :]. I have always been into fitness (I started doing Richard Simmons videos in middle school!! lol). I then proceeded to play a sport in high school and joined my first Golds Gym my junior year of high school. Although I lifted weights, my focus was always on cardio. I fell into that trap where I thought that in order to be “fit” I had to do cardio, cardio and more cardio!
I ran in my first race, junior year of college, and i was HOOKED :]. Since then I have run 6 half marathons, and completed my first MARATHON, January 13th, 2013 (a day I will remember forever! lol!).
Although I enjoy participating in these running events, I now know that my true passion is weight lifiting, HIIT, with a few running events sprinkled in here and there. It wasn’t until I decided to do Jamie Eason’s LiveFit training (a free program on bodybuiliding.com), that I realized how much weight lifting can transform your body (in a good way!) and how good I felt about myself – seeing muscles I never knew I could have and how strong I now feel :]. In addition, following Jamie’s LiveFit program, made me realize how important NUTRITION is.
I used to think that eating LOW calories, and FAT-FREE, SUGAR-FREE things would keep me “fit” and “thin”. I was always hungry, tired, and well, not happy. I did not take into account the NUTRITIONAL VALUE of the things I put into my body. Starting Jamie Eason’s LiveFit program was such an eye opener for me. It was like “wait, I can eat 5-6 meals a day and not get fat??” YES. I realized that it wasn’t about starving myself to make sure I was only eating X amount of calories of day, it was about eating CLEAN, portioned meals, which always include protein, veggies, clean carbs, fruits, etc. I’ll admit it was NOT easy at first…I went from being the queen of lean cuisines to cooking 4-5 hours on the weekend to have my meals prepped for the week, not to mention it was a SHOCKER on the budget (clean good food is not cheap!). But I can’t even being to tell you how amazing the changes have been. I have since learned so many new recipes (some of which I will share here on my blog), I am NEVER starving myself, and I am in the best shape of my life :]. Not to mention my insides feel good and regular (yes TMI =P).
So now, this brings me to my first blog: FAVFitness :]. Throughout my journey of discovering my passion for weightlifting and clean eating, I found so much inspiration and motivation from other bloggers, “instagram”ers, “pinterest”ers (making up words lol), etc. That I decided, “I want to motivate and help people too!”.
“FAV” in FAVfitness stands for “fitness at vidam” (“at vidam” is latin for “for life”). This is something that I truly believe. I believe that fitness is a LIFESTYLE. It is not just a 30 day diet or work out fad; it is about finding what your true passion is to live a HEALTHY lifestyle, and LOVING it!
I ALWAYS hear people say “I hate working out” “I hate running” “I hate restricting my diet”. Well, I truly believe it’s not about that. You just have to find what works for you (and yes people, there is something for everyone :]). A healthy person is a happier person :]. Everyone has to start somewhere; and when you find that passion – don’t look back! Just keep moving forward to a healthier, happier you!
